This sickness is not unto death (John 11:4) (Page 2)

My dear friend and his wife recently got C19 and I had an opportunity to pray for them. The Lord has pressed upon my heart that I Need to not only pray for things specifically but to also believe that God will answer my prayers.

The Lord brought me to a passage in scripture right before the news came to me about my friends. Acts chapter 2 is a message by Peter to those who would soon become believers and start the vital church in Jerusalem. And I thought the Lord was bringing me to this for another reason but like many things in our walk of faith, sometimes the Lord has other plans doesn’t He?

The initial response of Peter was due to the crowd mocking the disciples because of the things they were saying as they were filled with the Holy Spirit. The crowd was confused, and it was their natural response to ask “what ever could this mean?”

It says that when Peter heard the people he “raised his voice “ and I believe that he not only was speaking louder thus subjecting the crowds din, but he was also raising His prayers to God in belief that the Holy Spirit would bring more disciples into the fold. They had been obedient to the word of God in Psalm 109:8 “let another take his office” and now they were going to be obedient no matter what. Even if sudden events came upon them suddenly like they did on the day of Pentecost.

And so our response in obedience should be the same as Peter. Even when we have not been faithful and even denied the Lord. If we read that Jesus was praying to the Father then we know He is also praying for us too.

With boldness we can know that the Lord can heal those He wills to do so with. Corona or cancer, we can have the confidence that if we believe in the gospel we are new creations in Christ. God raised His own Son up from the pains of death because it was not possible that He should be held by it. Acts 2:24

So when we hear of others who are sick let us pray with the same boldness as Peter did, and David did before him in saying

“Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.

You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’”

‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:26, 28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Prayer for them to receive rest from the Lord. Don’t make it sound morbid, maybe even tell them that and have a great opportunity to share the gospel with them.

As Jesus said regarding Lazarus “this sickness will not be unto death”

So as Peter said “speak freely”, and share the love of Christ with them.

Pray for them, and believe that they will be healed. If you have any doubt that they won’t either because of a lack of faith on your own behalf or because they are most saved, just remember that God will do as He promised. He poured out the Holy Spirit on the disciples, and to you, and He will do it again.

May you grow in the Lord and gladly receive His Word today.

Raining Ash in Denver

The evening of September 5, 2020 it is raining ash from a fire near Rocky Mountain National Park. This is my first memory of an ash rain since the Haymen Fire of 2003. The devo from tonight was centered around the differences between law and grace. Galatians 5:18 says “But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” ‭‭ It reminds me of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah when it rained fire and brimstone down and destroyed the city. Unfortunately for everyone in that city minus Lot, His two daughters, and his wife all were destroyed. But they weren’tRead More →

What is it Going to Take to Become Righteous?

A message influenced by Isaiah chapter 28. Psalm 11:5 says “The Lord tests the righteous”. A couple verses prior the psalmist writes “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Today we must first and foremost believe that the Lord is our Lord, our Savior, and our King. If we have not done that yet, then we will become to epitome of the following verses and topics discussed here today. CS Spurgeon once wrote “All events are under the control of Providence;consequently all the trials of our outward life are traceable at once to the great First Cause.” What is the first greatRead More →

1 Corinthians 13:11-12 11. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. The Lord has been teaching me how to understand my gifts and also how to love better. As I read verse 11 I think about how I really was a child in my abilities to minister, serve, give, and love.Read More →

“Consider the work of God; For who can make straight what He has made crooked?” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭7:13‬ ‭ There should be no fighting against the Lord and the way He has directed your life. Sure we may have made a wrong turn here and there, or even time and time again, but the Lord knows the crooked way from the straight and narrow. Consider the story of the prodigal son. One son went and lived in the world and took all the wrong paths in life. Whereas the other lived the straight and narrow yet was still upset with his father when the brother returnedRead More →

Fight versus Flight

It has been said there is are but two common human responses to sudden engagement, fight or flight. There are those that desire the fight, may be filled with pride, or strength either physical or of heart that more take to the fight. Those then that flee are regarded by the others as scared, selfish or unable to help. However, biblically there is nothing wrong with flight response, especially in regards to when faced with temptation or sin. Joseph of course is probably the best example of this response. July 25th morning devo However, I’d like to propose the possibility of Jesus Himself avoiding temptationRead More →

PRECIOUS IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD

“Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His saints.” – Psalms‬ ‭116:15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ It is true that sin when it is fully conceived brings forth death but how unfortunate it is for those who do not know the Lord Jesus personally. It would be much more pleasing if they would pay their vows to the Lord and live able to fulfill their purpose in life. But sin has a way of keeping us down because it is so intricately woven into our very being. It is in fact a law that resides in us, and perfectly natural in our flesh to obey itRead More →

PRAYERS DURING PESTILENCE

2 Chronicles 6:28-40 Solomon’s Prayer to God is sincere and specific. It is direct because of his relationship with the God of the universe. Solomon knows that we all will have our individual prayers and burdens we bring to the Lord and he collectively asks God to give them what they ask. He is confident that God hears us because He knows our hearts. The Lord is Lord of all, not just of us “children of God”. We should pray that God answers the ‘prayers’ or requests of even the unbeliever so that all the people of the earth will know Him and come toRead More →
