It has been said there is are but two common human responses to sudden engagement, fight or flight. There are those that desire the fight, may be filled with pride, or strength either physical or of heart that more take to the fight. Those then that flee are regarded by the others as scared, selfish or unable to help. However, biblically there is nothing wrong with flight response, especially in regards to when faced with temptation or sin.
Joseph of course is probably the best example of this response.

However, I’d like to propose the possibility of Jesus Himself avoiding temptation as seen in John 4.
We already know that Jesus fought against the temptations of the devil with the Word of God, so he must have been thinking about some of the verses in Psalm 119.
Verses 9-11, 37, 50, 59, 71
“Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), He left Judea and departed again to Galilee.”
John 4:1-3 NKJV
Perhaps Jesus was tired of dealing with the Pharises at this point, or He simply didn’t want to engage them again knowing full well what would lie ahead after His travels through Samaria.
“For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.”
John 4:44
So we see that Jesus even might have avoided that temptation against the Pharises by going through Samaria first so that she could reap the harvest of those that would be saved because of the woman at the well.
